Hello! Tell us about yourself?

The name’s Sandin…Carlos Sandin. With Russian and Cuban blood in my veins, and a Swedish passport, it is not uncommon for me to be accused of being a spy. However, (fortunately or unfortunately) I am but a humble clown, with a simple mission of bringing joy through sheer silliness.  In my time off from playing the fool, you can also find me in more serious acting pursuits, most recently playing a Soviet Gulag prison guard in ‘We Were The Lucky Ones’.

Tell us all about your show!

A bizarre reconstruction of James Bond that no one asked for, but are sure glad they stumbled into. Who or what was Bond before he became 007? Probably an ape like the rest of us. Let’s find out together… Evolution, action, music, dancing, gambling and loving – the only thing to expect is the unexpected in this off-the-wall goofy take on the world’s most famous spy, which has been described as weird but incredible; absolutely insane but loads of fun.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

Fart joke + James Bond = Pull My Goldfinger

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

So many! I am especially excited to see so many international clowns in one place, such as ‘10,000 Digits of Pi’ (Vinay Sagar), ‘Bitty Bat’ (Emily Jeffers), ‘The Ritual’ (Steffan Hånes) and ‘#1 Son’ (Natasha Mercado). Also, as always I can’t wait to stumble upon something I can’t quite comprehend.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I have! 4 times in fact – but always in a company. This will be my first ‘solo’ fringe. I would highly recommend giving yourself some kind of routine that sits outside of just getting to the stage door on time. Be it always spending an hour doing nothing but having breakfast and chilling in the morning before the day begins, or maybe a post-show nap, some moment of peace to let your mind and body have an actual respite.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Would depend entirely on where I’m staying and what time my show is but theoretically:

Haggis breakfast, chill, see a show, flyer, haggis lunch, show prep, perform, pit stop back home, see a show, haggis, see a show, whiskey, see another show, see another show? Deep fried mars bar, sleep

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Keep your expectations open and follow the wind. You’re going to see work that’s amazing and you’re going to see work that’s terrible, that’s the joy of the fringe!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Anywhere that serves deep fried mars bars with ice cream.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The diversity of content on offer. The best thing I ever saw at the Fringe was a show called ‘Music Show Wedding’, a Korean theatre company created a kind of cabaret show tied loosely together by the narrative of a wedding spat between groom and father-in-law, the performers were all so incredibly talented musically and physically and they worked the hardest I’d ever seen a group of performers work. I don’t believe I would have ever seen that show or even anything like it were it not for the fringe.

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

Invest in good footwear. You’ll learn your fastest routes very quickly once you get there!

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

A fun hat, dungarees, heelys.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Time and place. Catching the right people at the right moment is key, I think. Can you easily point them in the direction of your venue from where you are? Are they your target audience?

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

Instagram/X(Twitter) – @carlosssandin

Facebook – Carlos Sandin

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

It’s simply ridiculous.
