Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Jessia

Tell us about:

Your latest single you released:

My new single is a song called “The Woman You Are. It’s a song that I wrote to celebrate moms and how much they give up for us to have the best lives possible.

What’s your favourite lyric in the song?

My favorite lyric is, “This world doesn’t end at the edge of this town.” My mom always pushed me to travel and to experience different foods, cultures, and places. I think traveling is such a great character building exercise. I am excited to pass that same sentiment along to my kids someday.

What’s your favourite song you’ve ever written?

I would say “Next Time” is my favorite song I’ve ever written. It really felt like therapy when I was writing it.

Your favourite song to play live:

Probably my song “Conviction.” It’s an old one but it goes so hard live, haha. I also love performing “I’m not Pretty” because we all get to sing it together.

Is there a song that you wrote that took the longest and why?

My new single, “The Woman You Are,” probably took me the longest. I’d had this idea about writing a song for moms for a long time, but I didn’t want it to come off as cheesy or disingenuous. It took a lot of time to write it in a way that felt authentic and exactly what I wanted to say.

Your most emotional track:

I would say “Next Time.” I was a mess while writing it and it truly healed me.

Dream collaboration:

I would love to work with Pink someday!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show.

I get excited nerves. Like, I just want to be on stage already. Standing in the wings and waiting to go on is the worst part, haha.

The hardest track to play live:

I would say “Serotonin” is the hardest one to perform live because of the dramatic change in the chorus. It really goes from 0-100!

Essential items you always take on tour with you:

Coconut water, noise cancelling headphones, and throat coat tea.

Describe your fans in three words:

So incredibly special!

What else can we look forward to from you this year?

The first two singles in 2024 lay the foundation for a project that I’m preparing to release this Summer!
