Hello! Tell us about your act ?
My name is Edward Oulton and I’m the writer and actor for Barrier to Entry. It’s a one man show about a scouse lad who’s taking his maths GCSE. It’s funny, fast and just a little bit outrageous.
My aim is for the show to be a riot of a time and also to be informative.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you are taking to the Peckham fringe?
When we were devising the play there was a lot of talking about all of the obstacles in Connors way. At one point I said something about his background being a barrier to entry and Dom, one of our devising team, said ‘That’s the title of the play’. And we never looked back!
Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
It’s a one man show all centred around Connor. He’s this laddy, larger than life kids who’s telling a story to avoid sitting his exams. He says what we’re all thinking… the definition of no filter.
How are the rehearsals going?
Brilliantly. Our fantastic team are bringing so much to the room and we are so excited to showcase this show for its limited premiere.
What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Peckham Fringe next year?
Know why you have to tell this story. It makes everything easier when there is a touch stone of ‘this is why it’s worth it’.
What is the best thing about performing at the Peckham fringe?
The best thing is definitely the accessibility. For an audience to get access to these kinds of diverse stories but also as a creative team to be so graciously allowed this opportunity. Theatre Peckham is one of the best theatres in London. Full stop.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
