Hello! Tell us about your act ?
‘A Wake’ is a show which explores the life of a member of the audience, this is done via an obituary – this can be real or imagined. This is an imagined wake in which we meet the family and friends of the deceased through which we learn of their loves, life and quirks told through the memories of others.
How did you come up with the name of your show that you are taking to Liverpool Improv Festival?
The title ‘A Wake’ reflects the subject matter.
Tell us a little bit about your style of show?
The work is inspired by the work of Mike Leigh, Keith Johnstones ‘Life Game’ and ‘Living funerals’. We are using long form improv and the events takes place across one evening in a backroom of a pub. It is gentle with moments of humour and shared connection across a sandwich and a drink.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the festival?
We are excited to watch the award winning ‘Your flaws: the Musical’ and ‘Rubbish Improvised Shakespeare: the incomplete works’. We love musical and narrative improv and are keen to pick up tips and see how they take suggestions and utilise them.
What is the best thing about performing at the Liverpool Improv festival?
This is our debut at the festival, but we went last year as audience members and we are excited to share our work with a very knowledgeable audience. The breadth and styles of work on offer and the chance to meet other improvisors is the best thing.
What are your three favourite things about Liverpool?
We of course love the Beatles which features in our pre-show music. We love the vibrancy and buzz of this very friendly city and finally The Unity theatre which provides an exciting mix of work and is always a great place to hang out.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Someone who gets what we are doing. It is different to most improv work out there, we are creating a slice of life and one we hope people can relate to.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@wingimpro on twitter and @wing_it_impro Instagram.
And Finally finish this sentence – ‘you should see our show at Liverpool Improv Festival because….
It will be different, we take the ordinary and make it extraordinary.
