Every other Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book by Tom Hanks all about the Hollywood film industry.
The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece (2023)
Tom Hanks
Synopsis
A wildly ambitious story of the making of a colossal, star-studded, multimillion-dollar superhero action film, and the humble comic book that inspired it all.
Spanning 80 years of a changing America and culminating in the opening of the film, we meet a colourful cast of characters including a troubled soldier returning from war, a young boy with an artistic gift, an inspired and eccentric director, a pompous film star on the rise, a tireless production assistant and countless film crew members that together create Hollywood magic.
Funny, touching, and wonderfully thought-provoking, The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece offers an insider’s take on the momentous efforts it takes to make a film. At once a reflection on America’s past and present, on the world of show business and the real world we all live in.

Positive Points
If there is one thing about Tom Hanks books is that they are in depth, thorough and can paint a vivid picture. This particular book is an incredibly slow burn – it starts exploring the original story and then delves into the whole creation of a film. Whenever a character is introduced to the book they have a whole back story explained before the story continues.
This book is a very good read and I really enjoyed it and found it incredibly in depth. It is a very unique style of book and you may enjoy it if you are looking for something different.
Negative Points
If there is one thing that I cannot stress enough, then that is how long the book is and how long it will take you to read as it is incredibly in depth and a slow burn.
Overall Review
This is a very in depth book that has a great narrative and gives you the whole process of creating a film in Hollywood which is incredibly interesting. It is a very long book and a slow burn read so if you are prepared for a book that will take time and you need to commit to then this is the book for you.
