Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Ultimatium

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

I think “Hall of Heroes” qualifies for our latest single. It’s only instrumental song in our epic five lead vocalists progpower opera, Virtuality. Although it’s an instrumental, even that song carries the story forwards with computer generated commentary and ambient sound effect. We made AI video for it, Matti P has been studying stable diffusion for a while and make a video of himself doing “hacking” on computer and then turned that video to look like c64 game.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

Oh, I think I chose a bit poorly, since there’s no actual vocals in that song, but I guess I’ll go with “User rights elevated” then

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

Mindcaptives, the fourth song of Virtuality and also target for our next AI video release in mid-February. That 11 and half min song captures the essence of the album as well as what this band nowadays is about. It has some killer vocals with all characters performing in that song

Your favourite song to play live:

We don’t play live currently, we made a decision before Virtuality that we’re not gonna try and make these songs live-playable at all, so that set us free to do more complex and massive things

The song that was the longest to write and why?

Surprisingly the shortest song, Hall of Heroes. It sat half finished in my computer for very long time, the start of the song was ready long time, but I just could not find a way to continue it from mid-point onwards. Then one one day, after multiple failures, I suddenly found the right riffs to move it forwards… That sometimes happens… That was also case with #11, “Scream” and one other song that is not in the album, both of those sucked at first, but then I combined the two songs and one good some came out of it

Your most emotional track:

#8, (Don’t) Fear the Silence. Without spoiling too much if the album story, dramatic things happen in the story, hence it’s ballad for the fallen…

Dream collaboration:

I think it would be real cool to collaborate with Nils K Rue for example, he has really great and powerful vocals

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It’s usually nervous, anxious, but not too much, there’s needs to be some sort of “alright, let’s show ‘em” feeling as well, otherwise it’s gonna suck

The hardest track to play live:

I think Hall of the Heroes would be hardest, if we’d ever play it live

Describe your fans in three words:

Dedicated, versatile, fantastic

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Stargazer, by Rainbow

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

New video is the only one we can actually promise, but I hope we can shed light to our next album during the spring-time
