INTERVIEW -A Quick Conversation with: Non Talkers

Welcome the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today I speak to the band Non Talkers who have recently released the album Roots. This summer they have some shows planned already in Europe as well as some special live streaming events. I spoke to them to find out if they can answer some tough questions about music.

What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?

The hardest lyric we’ve ever had to write was probably for the song “You Don’t Remember Anymore.” This song is about the emotional journey of dealing with a loved one’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The challenge was in capturing the mix of love, loss, and the painful transformation in the relationship. Writing something so deeply personal and heart-wrenching required us to delve into very vulnerable emotions. It was a difficult but cathartic process, as we sought to convey the depth of our feelings and the impact of this experience.

What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?

Honestly, we can’t recall receiving any weird gifts or compliments. However, one particularly sweet and memorable gift was a pair of puppets made to look like us. A fan crafted these puppets with such attention to detail – the female one holding a mic and the male one a guitar, both dressed in clothes similar to our style. It was not only sweet but also a wonderfully creative way of expressing appreciation for our music. It’s always so touching and inspiring to see our music translated into other forms of talent.

Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?

One of the best experiences we’ve had was sharing the stage at a festival where Simple Minds were the main act. Not only do we admire their music, but we were also deeply impressed by their humility. A memorable moment was when Jim Kerr, the lead singer, ran into Evita backstage and complimented our performance. Evita thanked him, not immediately realizing who he was. It was a surreal and unforgettable experience, especially given our respect for such an iconic band. Their down-to-earth demeanor made the encounter even more special.

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

One of our songs that’s been particularly challenging to rehearse for live performances is “Oh Baby I Love You So.” This track is complex, featuring a rich tapestry of instruments and melodies in the studio version. Achieving the right mix in a live setting is tricky because all these elements need to harmonize perfectly. We’ve actually opted to skip performing this song a few times because of this challenge. We’re still figuring out how to tweak it for live shows in a way that meets our standards and truly captures the essence of the song.

Dream Collaboration and why ?

Marco: For me, a dream collaboration would be with the band James. Their unique blend of indie pop and alternative rock has always inspired me. The way they craft their music, with deep lyrics and a distinct sound, resonates with our style. Collaborating with them would be an incredible opportunity to create something that merges our folk influences with their iconic sound.

Evita: I would love to collaborate with Lewis Capaldi. His powerful voice and emotionally charged songwriting really speak to me. Collaborating with him would be a chance to explore the depth of emotional storytelling in music, something that’s central to our own songs. His ability to connect with the audience through raw and heartfelt lyrics is something I deeply admire.
