The Travel Book – The Black Spout Waterfall, Pitlochry, Scotland

When you go somewhere new in the countryside, it can be hard to discover something you can do – especially if you do not drive. So many walks, attractions etc never seem to be near to a train station or a bus stop which means that you can miss out on so much. Well, today we are going to look at one of these types of areas with a walk you can do from the city centre.

Pitlochry is located on the edge of the Cairngorms. There is a train station and accessible from all the big cities of Scotland – Glasgow, Inverness, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, If you search online you will find the walking route to Black Spout which is just outside the town and consists of a wood and a wonderful waterfall.

There are two parts to Black Spout – the woods and the waterfall. The woodland parts is a nice up hill walk through the tall trees and if you go there early enough like we did you may even see some wild deer!

The star of the woods is the Black Spout waterfall – which is an impressive 190ft. There is a wooden viewing platform that gives you an amazing view of the falls and you can even follow the footpath to watch the water even more by going further up the hill.

Throughout the walk in the woods there is one thing that you need to be incredibly aware of and that is ticks. There are warnings all the way throughout the woods so make sure if you visit you dress correctly.

I highly recommend this walk as it is really is amazing.
