29 Days of Rom Coms – Day 11 – 6 Days, 7 Nights

Every day this month we are taking a look at a different rom com everyday to celebrate that it is a leap year in 2024 and valentines day also being in the same month.

Day 11 – 6 Days, 7 Nights

I have been watching rom coms from a very young age, this one came out in the late nineties so the first time I saw this I would of been about nine years old. I had seen a lot of Harrison Ford films such as Indianna Jones and Star Wars and was already a fan and obviously David Schwimmer was from Friends.I can’t remember how I first heard about this film but I knew I first saw it on VHS. We used to rent a lot from Blockbuster and I think we may of rented this the first time.

Here is the synopsis:

Robin Monroe, a New York magazine editor, and the gruff pilot Quinn Harris must put aside their mutual dislike if they are to survive after crash landing on a deserted South Seas island.

Imdb

I have always been someone who has loved rom coms and I think there was a time when I nearly every one that was available. I adored the escapism that they created and also they gave me hope, as a dreamer of a big love that maybe one day I will also have in a rom com related moment. This film is a tad different to other films that we have recently spoken about because this one is more of an action film.

This is one of those films that is incredibly random and I am scared to even watch it as an adult because I fear I will not like the plot anymore. The worst character in it is David Schwimmer as you can tell he is trying to break out from Friends and it is the same character which does not work.

It is a film that has a predictable plot but I used to really like it as a kid I had a crush on Ford, I didn’t really know what it was back then but I know that I always found him handsome as Indy or Han Solo and even though he was older in this film he still had a little slantly smile ever so often and that sort of charisma and charm.

The one thing that I couldn’t get my head around as a kid was the age gap. They never define it but from reading Imdb there is a 27-year age difference. I just couldn’t get it or understand it which is bizarre because I know that even my own parents had a big age gap. As a kid I could not understand why there was a female that was so much younger then him casted. I remember vaguely always asking my mum when we watched it this question and have very vivid memories of it.

I would say if you have not seen this film then make an effort to see it as it sort of defines the nineties and it is predictable but you may enjoy it.
