Every day this month we are taking a look at a different rom com everyday to celebrate that it is a leap year in 2024 and valentines day also being in the same month.

Day 9 – 13 Going On 30

This is a film that definitely defines the genre of romantic comedy then this is it. 13 Going On 30 is one of those films that is pure escapism, comedy and a happy ending all wrapped into one.

Here is the synopsis:

Unpopular schoolgirl Jenna Rink makes an unusual wish on her birthday. Miraculously, her wish comes true and the 13-year-old Jenna wakes up the next day as a 30-year-old woman.

This is such a feel good film, there are so many great sections of this film that make you smile and genuinely laugh out loud. I was a teenager when it came out and it was a film that always gave me a sense of hope for my future. It was one of those films you would watch as a teenager and wonder if any of your friends from school would turn out like that – it didn’t but it gave me a hope of romance.

This film was sort of like a comfort blanket, if you were ever feeling down you could turn this on and enjoy the fun of it and the great story that is told before you. I tend to find that a lot of the rom coms I ended up really liking all end up with the female working in journalism – it is only since I started writing this article that I realised this and I do wonder if they are to blame the route I went in my career.

If you want a film that is full of escapism then I highly recommend this film.
