Improv Corner – Playing The Favourite – INTERVIEW With Fabled: The Improvised Fantasy Adventure

Welcome to the feature which we are going to feature ever so often as part of Improv Corner. Ever so often. we are going to talk to improv acts about some of their favourite things about the comedy form. Today we speak to Gareth O’Connor from abled: The Improvised Fantasy Adventure. Fabled is an entirely improvised fantasy adventure tale that you can see this month on the 10th February at the Free Association in London. Today we speak to player Gareth and find out all about his favourite things about improv.

What is your Favourite:

Improv style:

The Armando, The Harold and The Montage…and The Improvised Fantasy Adventure, of course!

Short form game:

The prop game was always my favourite on Who’s Line Is It Anyway.

Improv act:

F*ck That Sh*t from UCB are hard to top. Highly recommend their old UCB Cage Matches on the NY Comedy YouTube channel.

Film or television show:

I always say Man On Fire is my favourite film but sometimes I wonder if I’m not thinking hard enough.

Venue to perform at

The Free Association in Haggerston.

Way to wind down

Watching F*ck That Sh*t Cage Matches on YouTube.

Way to warm up

Watching F*ck That Sh*t Cage Matches on YouTube.

Suggestion:

In Fabled, we ask the audience for the name of the person the story is about and a positive trait for them. If that doesn’t scream “three-dimensional character” I don’t know what does!

Show by another improv act:

Austentatious is so great and pretty much the gold standard of narrative improv in the UK.

Memory of a show:

Once in a show, I was endowed as someone with telekinetic abilities. I thrust my hands out to use my powers and without needing to say anything, the other members of my team immediately made me fly in the air and started throwing chairs around the room. Now, that’s what I call support!

Part of rehearsing a show:

Needing to try really hard to stop yourself from laughing.

Thing about performing:

Needing to try really hard to stop yourself from laughing.

Quote:

“You can take the train to crazytown, but you have to take the local” – Neil Casey via Will Hines

Thing about the improv industry at the moment:

Just the wealth of talent that is in the UK right now. So many great performers and groups putting on great shows!

Thing about this year so far?

You, coming to Fabled: The Improvised Fantasy Adventure at 9pm on the 10th February at The Free Association! A sorcerer showed me the future so it’s basically already happened.
