29 Days of Rom Coms – Day 5 – Just Go With It

Every day this month we are taking a look at a different rom com everyday to celebrate that it is a leap year in 2024 and valentines day also being in the same month.

Day 5 – Just Go With It

The words rom com and Adam Sandler do not roll off the tongue very easily but weirdly he has actually appeared or produced some very good ones. I cannot remember how I was first introduced to this film but I remember watching the trailer initially and thinking it would be a fun film.

Adam Sandler is one of those people that a lot of people love to hate – I was introduced to him from a very early age when we rented Happy Gilmore from Blockbuster to see what it was all about and found it incredibly hilarious. Since then I have watched most of his films and enjoyed about 85% of them. There are some great ones, there are some bad ones. Just Go With It is in the circle of a great film.

Here is the synposis:

In a weekend trip to Hawaii, a plastic surgeon convinces his loyal assistant to pose as his soon-to-be-divorced wife in order to cover up a careless lie he told to his much-younger girlfriend.

Imdb

It is a predictable plot but the chemistry between Aniston and Sandler make it and you can understand why they have gone on to make more films together (although I have not seen the others). This is a very light hearted rom com and there are many moments that are very fun and also very enjoyable. It may be something you expect from Adam Sandler but it is a very enjoyable film.

The part that really stood out as a surprise was Nicole Kidman, I would of never thought that she would want to appear in a film like this but she does it well and it creates a fun moment with her and Jennifer Aniston.

This is the sort of film you want to watch for pure escapism – the thing that gets irritating is the daughter that keeps talking in an awful English accent but if you can just ignore that then it is a film that is typical of the rom com genre but also witty.

I like this film and it is one that I do not watch that much but when I do I always enjoy it and makes me have a smile by the end of it.
