The Travel Book – Travel Through A Photo – Córdoba, Spain

There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to the feature that will appear regularly in the travel section.

The one thing that I love about going to locations you know little about that has a lot of history means that you can come across some amazing pieces of architecture that can really blow you away. Well today we are looking at a photograph of something I came across on a random day trip to a town that I found fascinating.

We had gone to Seville for a holiday and halfway through the trip we decided to plan a huge trip to a local town – we did a lot of research and in the end decided to go and visit Cordoba. I cannot remember the reasons why but I am really glad that we did.

Córdoba is a fascinating place – it has a history of both Christianity and Muslim faith which can be seen throughout the city and at times it is hard to remember that you are in the centre of Spain. There is some truly amazing buildings and palaces to see but one of my favourites was this wheel that is the focus of today’s article.

I was truly amazed by this, it was something that I had not expected and it was so huge that is was something that really fascinated me. I think that it must of been part of an old watermill but the wheel itself was so huge that it was hard to imagine just how deep the water used to be in these locations as it was so arid now.

I love this photograph so much, it has a sort of uniqueness to it and it is one of those pieces of architecture that you do not see many others really posting about and that is why I adore it – it is sort of like a hidden treasure. It was a very warm day when we visited so the colours of the brick pop against the green plants and trees surrounding it.
