Sunday Book Club: With A Mind To Kill, Anthony Horowitz

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. All this month we are looking at the James Bond trilogy by author Anthony Horowitz

With A Mind To Kill (2022)

Anthony Horowitz

Synopsis

It is M’s funeral. One man is missing from the graveside: the traitor who pulled the trigger and who is now in custody, accused of M’s murder – James Bond.

Behind the Iron Curtain, a group of former SMERSH agents want to use the British spy in an operation that will change the balance of world power. Bond is smuggled into the lion’s den – but whose orders is he following, and will he obey them when the moment of truth arrives?

In a mission where treachery is all around and one false move means death, Bond must grapple with the darkest questions about himself. But not even he knows what has happened to the man he used to be.

Positive Points

Right from the start this book is action packed and throws you right into the centre of the drama. It is a really interesting concept and very different to the others in the trilogy. It follows on from the last book Ian Fleming does so there is a slight crossover at times. There are some interesting twists and turns at times as well.

Negative

I felt that it needed more chapters, there is this huge build up and then it ends up feeling rushed near the end.

Overall Review

I did not find this book as gripping as the other two before it, there were times where the book was very engaging and exciting but then there were times when it started to feel rushed. The ending I am not sure about and felt it needed more chapters. It was an interesting concept to end the James Bond trilogy but just wish there was a bit more to it.
