It is the new year which only means one thing, it is time to celebrate acts that you should be keeping an eye on this year! Today we speak to the band The Rupert Selection who have lots of exciting things coming in 2024!

Hello tell us all about your band?

Reilly Somach: We are The Rupert Selection, a psychedelic grunge/rock band from Boston, MA.

How was 2023 for your band – what were the highlights?

Somach: This year has been a really exciting one for us. We released our second album which we started recording during the beginning of the pandemic called Crumbs For The Sun. We played a lot of really great shows with some great bands, released a few singles and music videos and were nominated for Rock Artist Of The Year by the Boston Music Awards. We’ve also deep into writing for our next album.

What was the top 3 highlights for you?

Somach: Opening for Lespecial w/ Mike Dillon was really fun. Getting to play with Bent Knee who is one of our favorite bands was really fun. Playing a show on a Boat. Finishing and releasing our new album has to be in there somewhere too.

What was the key lesson you learnt from last year?

Somach: Less is more.

How did you get into music?

Somach: It’s been around me and in my family as long as I can remember. 

What are your plans for the band in 2024?

Somach: Lots of shows and new music, exciting things we aren’t able to share yet.

What other bands and musicians are you looking forward to seeing perform this year?

Somach: Too many to name.

What styles do you hope to see more of in music this year?

Somach: Anything genuine.

What band is your ones to watch in 2024 and why?

Somach: To keep it specific to Boston, I’ve gotten really into Kal Marks since their last album came out and excited to hear what they do next. 

Do you have any new years resolutions? If so what are they?

Somach: To make the best next album we can. Write and play as much as possible.

The movie or television show you are looking forward to seeing this year?

Peter W. Bartash: I Think You Should Leave Now and Sex Education have come up multiple times between us so probably either of those. We’ve been talking a lot about movies from the 90s/00s that are now “classics” so it’s been fun to rediscover those again!

Your favourite book?

Bartash: Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut.

If you could paint anything what would you paint?

Bartash: The finish on my own signature custom guitar!

What is the most delightful word you can think of?

Bartash: GIG.

Favourite album?

Bartash: Absolutely no chance of settling on an answer for this one haha…

Where would you love to go on holiday this year?

Bartash: EU tour…

What is your favourite quote from a television show? 

Bartash: “He’s nice, bit of a close talker.”

Who is your favourite film character and why?

Bartash: The answer would be different any time you ask, but at this moment it’s White Goodman from Dodgeball because he is hilarious, clever, and just an absolute piece of shit. To be fair, this was a toss up against Billy Bob Thornton’s character in Bad Santa
