It has come to the point of the year when we celebrate all things music and take a look back on the year and what songs that it has provided us with. Today we have a look at the last ten in our list of greatest songs of 2023.
21) I’m Just Ken – Ryan Gosling
If there is one person that finally got their time in the limelight then it was Ken from the Barbie movie. This song saturated social media and became an instant hit It has had over 70 million streams on Spotify and has been nominated for awards at the up and coming Grammy Awards. It was produced by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.
22) Padam, Padam – Kylie Minogue
In May of this year, Kylie Minogue released the single Padam Padam that was the lead single of her sixteenth studio album called Tension. The song was highly praised and has been nominated for a Grammy Award and also has won Record Of The Year at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards. It is a track that also went viral on social media with a dance that people would record.
23) Waffle House – Jonas Brothers
In April of 2023, the Jonas Brothers released the single Waffle House which was the second track to be taken from their sixth studio album that was plainly called The Album. It was released under the record label of Republic and have stated in previous interviews that the song explores the ideas about coming together with people you love and making dreams come true.
24) Got Me Started – Troye Sivan
It has been a big year for Troye Sivan and the musician has released hit after hit. In September Troye released the track Got Me Started that sampled the 2011 song by the Bag Raiders called Shooting Stars. The song is off of the 2023 album Something To Give Each Other which was released in October. It is also a song that was used in a skit with SNL where actor Timothy Chamelet imitated the musician and it went viral on all social media platforms.
25) Now and Then – The Beatles
It was a big year for The Beatles fans as they were surprised with a song that they were not expecting. The single was released in the 2nd November and is known as the last Beatle’s Song. In 1977, John Lennon wrote and recorded part of this track as a home demo and it was never finished. Using new technology, Sir Paul McCartney was able to help finish it and help release the track which was also part of the documentary The Beatles: Get Back. Naturally, the single went straight to number 1 in many countries.
26) Ella Baila Sola – Eslabon Armado and Peso Pluma
In March of this year, the song Ella Baila Sola was released and became an instant hit through Tik Tok. It has had over 1 billion streams on Spotify and was also the first regional Mexican song in history to reach the top ten in the US Hot 100.
27) She’s A War – Lektron
This year gave Matt Skiba fans a lot more excitement as he collaborated with Atom Willard (Rocket From The Crypt, Alkaline Trio), Hunter Burgan (AFI) and Randy Moore (Spirit World) to create the band Lektron. In May the band released a couple of debut singles that anyone could stream online that had a garage punk feel to it.
28 ) Is It Over Now? – Taylor Swift
This years Time Person of the year has had a really huge 2023 – a sell out tour that made millions, re-releases of albums continue, a music tour cinematic experience and her love life hits the headlines non-stop. It was a great year for Swifties as when the album 1989 was released at Taylors Version it came with a previously unreleased track It It Over Now. Originally written in 2014, this song was left off the original album and was released in October of this year.
29) What Was I Made For? – Billie Eilish
The Barbie Movie took over this year and one artist that was involved in releasing music for the film was none other then Billie Eilish. The song What Was I Made For was released on the 13th July and became an instant success worldwide. It went to number one in the UK, Switzerland, the US, and Ireland to name a few. It was produced by Andrew Wyatt, Mark Ronson and Finneas.
30) Kill Bill – SZA
The final song we are going to look at an R&B track released by SZA firstly in January of this year and then again in April when it remixed by Doja Cat. This song gave SZA her first number one and it went into the top ten in more then eight countries including Australia, Canada, Indonesia and the UK to name a few. The song won video of the year at the BET Awards and also won Top R&B song of the Billboard Music Awards.
