Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Our latest single has been a long time coming. Originally written when we were teenagers it has gone away and come back in three or four different forms until we finally got it right. It’s weird in a way as the lyrics to the song were so pertinent at the time of writing but became almost prophetic as time and life went on. It has taken far too long to finish but now looking back on it there have been some amazing experiences. Recording a live string section on it was really exciting and going into Abbey Road for the Mastering session was just brilliant.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
Our first single was Chameleon, and it was a bitter sweet experience, It received a lot of love but unfortunately was released a few days before lockdown was announced and David got covid which smashed his voice so it was so difficult to even play any online gigs to enjoy the release. However shooting the video was great fun and it may possibly get a cheeky re release in the future.
Your favourite song to play live:
Second Chances, its a little bit bonkers, a tad over the top and just a mad bundle of energy, loud guitars, time signature changes and rock n roll fun
The song that was the longest to write and why?
An un-released track called Crazy Love. It was written in two completely different parts with about 6 years in between the two. The first part was a little spontaneous piano jam and voice note that sat on David’s phone for a few years. Then 6 ish years later when sat at the guitar a new completely unrelated idea stared forming and the old piano jam just started falling out of my mouth like it was always supposed to be the bridge of this song. It’s a cool feeling when music exists like that, almost waiting patiently to be channeled into the place it was always meant to be. (technically as we still haven’t finished recording this song the time scale on writing it will end up being even longer in the end haha)
Your most emotional track?
This answer could change depending on which emotion we’re talking about and how I’m feeling at the time. But quite possibly a song we’ve just started performing live with a working title of dumb luck. It’s very honest open and raw and sung completely in the first person, so their really is no hiding place when performing it.
The best lyric you have ever written?
Ahhhh surely that’s for others to say. Thinking of which I’ll tell you the favourite lyric of a friend and collaborator that we sadly lost this year. “Please don’t ask another question, because you won’t like the answer. Tell me what were you expecting, expecting something different, | said it and I meant it, I’ll be happy when you’re gone”.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show?
It’s a feeling of being where you are meant to be. An escapism and a fulfilling of a need.
The hardest track to play live?
Chameleon used to be a bit of a nightmare as the vocals and guitars have so much counterpoint trying to play and sing them at the same time took quite some time to become comfortable with.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Hairspray haha
Describe your fans in three words:
Loyal, supportive and lovely
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana. To write something that has that much of an impact on music must have been completely mind blowing and in-comprehensible.
What we can look forward to from your band in 2024:
More new music, hopefully a first album, lots of live shows and a small wedding sabbatical for David
