INTERVIEW – A Quick Conversation With: Misery Lane

Welcome the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today I speak to the band Misery Lane who have released the album Red Balloon this year. I thought it would be fun to ask them some tough questions about the music industry!

What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?

The hardest lyrics I have ever had to write was for the song “Where Did You Go”.  I wrote it shortly after my fiancé passed away unexpectedly in 2018.  I was really hurting and needed to get that pain out and music has always been an escape for me, so I poured myself into that song.  It took me about 30 tries to finish recording the vocals because I couldn’t stop crying.

What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?

I had a woman once tell me after a performance that she wanted to have my baby.  I told her she could buy me a beer, so we settled on that.  LOL.  Most of the time fans want to buy you a drink so they can talk to you.  The weirdest compliment was I thought you guys were going to suck but you didn’t.  Also, LOL.

Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?

I think some of the best musicians I’ve had the pleasure of playing with are the ones who are really trying to get their name out there like us.  Too often bigger national acts don’t bother to come and see local bands there to support them unless they pay to go on tour with them and any local band that does make a “Local Name for Themselves” often act the same way and don’t bother to watch any of the opening bands and it can be frustrating.  Like hey guys you used to be where we are how about a little support.  You know that’s all you wanted when you were us.

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

The song “Wake Up” off the new album is the hardest to play live.  I wrote that song before I had to sing it, so I never imagined having to do both but now I do.  I often get complimented after shows on that song and how difficult it looks to play the riff and sing, and they aren’t wrong.

Dream Collaboration and why ?

I would love to collaborate with Howard Jones, formerly of Killswitch Engage.  I love his vocal approaches to metal music and I think he is a very talented singer and artist.  He showed that metal can still be more than just chug chug chug scream.
