The festive period is here and there are so many shows that are available for audiences to go and watch! Over the next few weeks, we will be talking to lots of different shows and performers about what they have in store for this time of year. Today we speak to The Crumbling Creatives – Jane Elsmore, Madeline Pell, Leoni Amandin and Rosina Williams a sketch comedy group that have a show on the 22nd of November at the Backyard Comedy Club! You can purchase tickets by clicking here. Today I find out all about their Seasonal Spectacular Extravaganza.
Hello tell us a little bit about yourself!
We are a dynamic all-female sketch comedy troupe, featuring Jane Elsmore, Madeline Pell, Leoni Amandin and Rosina Williams. Despite our very creative nature, we are continuously falling apart just a little as a consequence of the volatility of modern life, hence the name: The Crumbling Creatives.
What is the show that you are bringing to the stage in this Festive season?
The Seasonal Spectacular Extravaganza is our grand one-night event, delivering a mix of seasonal themes with a comedic twist. You’ll get some spook before the cheer, a few references to current affairs, observational absurdism, a cast including two immigrants and 25% more ethnic diversity than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, our concerns about elf welfare and potentially a little cameo by Rudolf himself.
Tell us all about the characters that you play?
This show presents as many different characters as there are sewing kits in biscuit tins. From average to extraordinary toddlers, loud-mouth New Jersey broads, a yoga teacher who doesn’t practice what she preaches, a spectrum of mythical creatures and beasts, and potentially the big man himself.
Will there be a bit of festivity in your show?
Only in the second half, so don’t be disappointed and make sure you come back after the interval!
What are your favourite things about the festive season and why?
For some of us, it’s the holy light (but it shines on Maddie only). For Leoni is the German biscuits that remind her of her childhood. And for others, it’s the Christmas spirit. Glug. But most of all, despite our creative differences when it comes to this celebration, we cherish coming together to combine humour and heart.
This time of year the venues tend to be a bit busier as well – do you find that the audience changes at all?
Well, this is actually our first seasonal show, so we don’t know yet. But we hope our audience stays just as awesome as they have been for the other shows, especially Rosina’s mum.
What advice would you give for people performing around the festive season?
If you’re performing anywhere near the North Pole, don’t eat yellow snow.
What is the best thing about a night at your show for the audience?
If you don’t like one sketch, don’t worry, none of them are longer than 2 minutes. There’s something for everyone.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
You can follow @thecrumblingcreatives on Instagram for a taste of the laughs to come.
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Because: we’re worth it. L’Oreal Paris.
