Welcome to the feature where we talk to musicians about some of their favourite things about the industry. Today we speak to Bryan from the band King Of Cups who has recently released the track Missing You. Today I speak to him to find out all about his favourite things about the music industry.
What is your Favourite:
Song you have written:
Bryan: My favourite song we have written is “Missing You”. Back To You, would be my favorite released track, along with our first Christmas song, Merry Christmas (Don’t Get Me Anything)
Lyric:
One of my favorite lines in our latest single, Back To You, goes, “Home, it’s where the heart is.” It’s so catchy and cliche.
Musician:
One of my favorite musicians is Dave Grohl. He’s a monster on drums, guitar, and vocals, and the dude really knows how to write timeless songs.
Film or television show:
My favorite movie of all time is Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. As a child, the guitars and time travel drew me in, but the older I got, the more I actually related with the characters.
Venue to perform at:
I really enjoyed playing at a venue called The Underground in Roseville, CA. The sound was killer, and the stage was small but not too small. Unfortunately, they shut down.
Item to take with you on tour:
I never leave home without my AirPods Pro. As much as I wish that were a sponsored product placement, it’s not. The noise cancelation and small fit are perfect for tuning out my surroundings when I’m out and about.
Instrument:
Well, I am a guitarist, so my favorite instrument is the guitar. Before I got a guitar, I was considering playing the saxophone.
Song to play live:
Shaun and I were in another band years back that had a song called, High Heels & Dangerous Streets. It used to really get the crowd going nuts.
Album by another musician:
Still Searching from Senses Fail is one of my all-time favorite albums.
Memory of tour :
One time I was about to play one of the biggest shows I had ever played and had diarrhea 5 minutes before we went on. I’ll never forget all the text messages I was getting from the bandmates wondering where the heck I was.
Era for music:
I loved pop-punk/post-hardcore from 2002-2010. I still can’t get enough of those bands.
Part of making a record:
Making records is fun but stressful. Although I enjoy crafting guitar tones, my favorite part is once the songs are mixed, and you get to hear it for the first time as a completed work of art.
Thing about performing at festivals:
Festival or not, I just love performing live. The energy of the band feeding off the crowd is intoxicating.
Quote:
This one is for all the nerds out there, “I’ve been around long enough to know how ignorant I am. I don’t assume the universe obeys my preconceptions, but I know a fact when it hits me in the face.” – Dominar Rygel XVI
Thing about the music industry at the moment:
The best thing about the music industry right now is how accessible everything is. It has never been easier to release music and find an audience than it is today.
Thing about this year so far?
This year has been really exciting, we released Back To You, and we have another killer song coming out later this summer. Shaun and I are writing the best music we have ever written this year and I know next year will be even better.
