Music Memories – This Week – 2 Times

The one thing I love about music is that everyone has their own story to tell – the musician, the lyrics, the way the fans decipher them and also the way a song can also create a memory or a meaning to someone. That is what this new article is all about. Each fortnight, we will take a look at a different song and I will take you as a trip down memory lane as to what it means to me. Welcome to Music Memories.

Track: 2 Times
Artist: Ann Lee
Original Release Date: 1999

It’s funny how things stick in your head as a memory when you hear a certain song and the weirdest things come floating back. Today we look at one of these specific memories.

It was 1998, I was in Primary School and it was peak pop music time – dance routines were the ‘in thing’. We used to have these events at school – talent competitions and I remember that one of them was a dance version.

I went to a Primary School where there was only one class a year and I was not a fan because I didn’t like a lot of them and by the end of year 6 I was thankful to leave. This particular dance competition happened in either year 4 or year 5.

We had to break off into groups and come up with dance routines. I cannot remember what song my group chose but I know that it was a disaster because a lot of my ‘team’ couldn’t be bothered. This really annoyed me as it was something I loved doing.

When it came to the day of the ‘competition’ there was all these other groups that were great and I can’t remember ours as it was so bad.

The team that ‘won’ did a routine to the song Two Times. I never liked the song but as I watched them, I was so jealous how good their dance routine was. Whenever I hear this song, the memories still come flooding back.

All I wanted was a team to do a decent dance routine with it – it never happened.
