Welcome the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today I speak to Barak who will be singing at Pizza Express Live on the 4th October at 8pm. Today I will be asking Barak some difficult music questions.
What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?
The song that was the most difficult for me to write is a song that will be released as a single soon called “Done”. This is a song I wrote about breaking up with my long-term relationship that ended badly. It was especially difficult for me to write it because unlike previous relationships this was a relationship full of security and trust and therefore, I was surprised and lost trust and it was very difficult for me to write about it.
What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?
After the release of my song “Lightning in the Making” and the release of the music video filmed in a tower in the heart of Tel Aviv, a fan told me that I have beautiful feet. I found it very amusing considering the fact that there were supposed to be matching shoes in the outfit but at the last minute I decided to take a photo without them because they were uncomfortable.
Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?
During my military service in the Israel Defense Forces, I served as a soloist in a military band. It is a very prestigious position and very few get it. In this framework I worked and performed alongside many famous artists in Israel. Unfortunately, I have yet to share a stage with an international artist. Hopefully this will change very soon with my UK tour.
What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?
Without a doubt, my first song, “Pleasure To Meet You” written by Stav Helen Kurzberg is the most difficult to perform live because the writer and composer of this amazing song composed it with a sophisticated melody that is full of difficult sounds to sing and you have to be very precise in the notes. But, this beautiful song is definitely one of the most beautiful songs I have performed in my life and I am excited to sing it every time.
Dream Collaboration and why?
As a child I dreamed of working with many artists in my life. I find my musical taste very varied and different and I listen to music from all over the world. You can see it in my music that each song is very different from the previous one, if so there is still a uniform and cohesive line in my identity as an artist and in all my songs this is reflected. Some of the artists I dreamed of working with are no longer with us, like Amy Winehouse, so it will always remain a comforting fantasy for me. But absolutely collaborating with Lady Gaga would be a real pleasure and a dream come true.
