INTERVIEW – A Quick Conversation With: King Of Cups

Welcome the feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today I speak to Shaun from the band King Of Cups, the have recently released the track Missing You which you should go and check out! Today we ask Shaun some difficult questions..

What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?

I will have to say the most challenging lyrics that I had to write are from our latest single, “Back To You.” The melody was difficult to craft and once I got it, it was hard to sing. I had to rerecord “Back To You” three times. That’s not counting the first few attempts before I was good enough to sing on the track.

The lyrics were difficult because it was my first time writing for our new sound. We recently changed our name to King of Cups, and we knew we had to bring it with “Back To You.” So, figuring out how to write relatable and meaningful lyrics was difficult. I think I accomplished it!

What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?

Probably the weird, backhanded compliments jealous musicians give us. It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten one. Maybe it could be because I don’t care about that anymore. I can’t remember at all, but I do remember getting some in the past. Sorry, I don’t have specifics.

Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?

Best as in biggest following? Mozart Season was a packed house. That was incredible. Kindest people? Easily a band called Strifer back in the day. They were such nice dudes.

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

“Back To You” is in my upper register, and the melody has tricky timing during certain parts. I would have to say, “Back To You” for sure. It’s a great and fun track to perform, though!

Dream Collaboration and why ?

Oh man, I know Bryan would love to work with Beau Burchell. I know we both would love to do a track with Buddy from Senses Fail. They would both be amazing to work with. It would be fun to work with our friends from Free Friends too!
