Not Myself Tonight – Christina Aguilera
Today we are going to look at a song that was released by Christina Aguilera in the noughties that you may remember as it was completely different to other tracks that she released before and which made it very unique. Let’s delve into the history behind the track Not Myself Tonight.
The single was released on the 2nd April 2010, it was written by Greg Curtis, Ester Dean, Jamal Jones and Jason Perry. It was published under the record labels of RCA and Sony Music. The song was the lead single to be released off of the sixth studio album called Bionic. The track was different to her other music because it delved into the genres of R&B and electro pop. The image that was released to promote the single was compared to Madonna and Lady Gaga which was common in this time because there was a lot of commotion about whether they were copying Gaga to gain the popularity she had at this time.
The single did really well and it charted at in the top 10 in many countries including Belgium (9), Bulgaria (3), Hungary (2), Japan (3), Poland (5), South Korea (3)and the US Dance club song chart (1). In the United Kingdom it went into the charts at number 12. The track became certified gold in Australia and sold over 35,000 copies.
I remember this track and I also remember the opinions to this track when it was released – a lot of people were not sure and there was a lot of mixed reviews as it felt like she was trying to compete with other musicians. It was an alright song but it may not of got the praise it deserved.
