Welcome back to Improv Corner! Did you have a good summer? Did you head to Edinburgh or Camden Fringe? If so, I would love to hear about some of the shows that you saw and which one you would recommend- especially improv!

It can always be a weird time, September, I always find it sort of like a term at school when it comes to improv. You have more then likely had a break for the summer and now you are returning. Maybe for a new course, new drop ins, or just a regroup with your team or friends.

So, with it being a new ‘term’ lets go over a few things that may be good for you to remember when you head back into improv this year:

Ease Back in

Don’t feel like you have to jump in at a million miles an hour, improv is meant to be fun and if you dive in to the deep end straight away you may go in and put too much pressure on yourself to enjoy it and do everything exactly the right way. September is a great way to get back into improv and take the first few weeks calmer and enjoy it all.

Don’t be too hard on yourself

It can be really easy to jump back into improv and then be incredibly hard on yourself when you mess up or you get your words messed up or you cannot get your head in the game. If you have had a break from improv, it is natural to not get everything right for the first few times as we sometimes need to warm up and get back into the way of doing things.

Try and refresh warm up games

You have just returned to improv after a break and it is the perfect time to do something new and refresh your warm up routine. Not just to make it different, but maybe you have watched something over the last couple of months and it has made you want to remix everything.

Have Fun

The most important thing about improv and should always be at the top of your priority list, is to have fun! Enjoy the process, enjoy having fun with your team or fellow players and embrace your time together.
