The Weekend – Michael Grey

It is always interesting to look at a dance track as it is so popular at the time that it is released and then it sort of fades away into the distance and we only remember it when the song turns up on playlists like Throwback Thursday. Today we look at a track that was really popular in the early noughties.

The Weekend was a single by Michael Gray featuring Shena that was released on the 1st November 2004. It was released under the record label of Eye Industries and Universal. The song features a sample from the 1984 song ‘Back at Ya’ which was released by the group Kerr.

The song did really well around the world and went into the top 10 in Ireland (3), Greece (10), Australian Club Chart (1), Hungary (1) and the UK Singles (7) and UK Dance chart (1).

I remember this song vividly as it was used a lot when it was released, I am sure that it was used on an advert for Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway as every time I hear it, that pops into my head. It is not a bad song, it is pretty catchy and that is why it gets stuck in your head so easily.
