There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to a new feature that will appear regularly this year in the travel section. Today we are going to kick things off by looking at one of my favourite photos.
It’s funny when you look at a photograph and it can bring back a feeling, a sense or a smell. It does not happen very much but sometimes there are photographs that when you look at them you can bring all these emotions back.
It was 2012, I was on a cruise around the Mediterranean and one of those stops was Rome in Italy. I was so excited because it was somewhere that I had always wanted to visit. One of the first places that we went to on the trip was the Colosseum. It is one of those paces that to really experience it, you have to go up to the top of it to really see it in all of it’s gory…sorry i mean glory.
When you get tot he top of the Colosseum you can see all the maze of the arena and it is very dramatic, I don’t say this next thing abut many photographs but it is one of those locations that you can feel death. You can imagine the place being filled with people and watching the Gladiators or the contenders down below fight to the death.
That is why this photograph I find it very bold and to me, it brings back all these memories and feelings I had when I entered and the emotions that it brings back. It may not be the best photograph I have ever taken but it brings back a lot of memories.
