Tell Us About:
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
Go! I had just performed my first gig at the Bedford and was in a taxi on the way home when it went live! We played the song on my phone (I wanted to be the first stream it…and to check everything was okay!) – it was a lovely moment, if not a bit of an anticlimax. The week leading up to it had been a lot of stress and last minute artwork changes and general chaos and tears.
Your favourite song you have created on the EP:
Fish is my favourite, I took a while to find a way of communicating the message that felt right. It holds a lot of emotion for me.
Your favourite song to play live:
Currently, ‘Years’ Is my favourite to play live, I love prancing round the stage to the chorus, it feels light and summery!
The song that was the longest to write and why.
Words took the longest to write. I started it in 2016 and the only thing I kept from the early version is the first verse. It was a song about not knowing how to talk about something…so it took a while to figure out!
Your most emotional track:
Fish, I have only just got to the point where I don’t choke up anymore! It can be a little problematic when singing live as there is no guarantee I won’t go full water works on you.
The best lyric you have ever written:
This is a tricky one! My favourite lyric is in Go! “Where do you go? Where do you stay? Miniature soap, mud on your face”. I love how it immediately takes me to being on the road and travelling; little hotel rooms and campsites.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
My tummy is a series of avalanches and my mouth is drier than a rich tea biscuit. I try to look at it as excitement not nervousness!
The hardest track to sing live:
Words is pretty tricky! I definitely want to be warmed up for that one.
Essential items you always take on tour with you:
I haven’t been on tour yet…but when I do, I’ll be taking my orthopaedic flip flops, a cute disposable camera and a battery pack.
Describe your fans in three words:
Curious, gentle, dreamers.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
At the moment I am loooooving ‘Pick Your Tears Up’ by Grace Carter. It is an amazing song and I would have loved to have written it!
What can we look forward to:
More music and a more live shows!
