Hello! Tell us about Good Girl ?

Good Girl is a show all about the male gaze; I take male fantasies and tropes about women and turn them on their head. There’s lots of audience participation, songs, skits, physical theatre, clowning, improvisation, and, of course, jelly shots for my brave audience participants! It’s funny and silly and grotesque, and hopefully makes people think too.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?

I wanted something short and sharp, and something that encapsulated the feeling of having to prove yourself as a woman. “Good Girl’ is a phrase we don’t stop hearing, even as we get into adulthood!

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

It’s a mix of scripted, improvised, and clown / physical theatre segments, with some song parodies and powerpoints thrown in for good measure. It’s a little anarchic, and very silly.

What will your set be about?

It’s really all about the male gaze; how do men view women? how do we view ourselves? how do we want to view ourselves?

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I’m looking forward to Beat Inflation with Sue the Cleaner. I took a clowning class with the two performers in that a couple of years ago, and their show looks funny and stupid in the best way!

Have you done the fringe before? What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?

I have! I performed with Improbotics at The Hen and Chickens several years ago, and we had a really fun time; it was my first time improvising at a fringe show, and it felt like such a wild ride!

What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?

Get in early on Eventotron (and ask someone to show you how it works if you’ve never used it!), shop around venues and get the best deal you can, keep a spreadsheet or notes of what’s been said and agreed! It’s super easy to lose track, so keeping a tidy house will serve you massively.

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?

It’s really great to be able to have such a hub of fringe theatre in my adopted hometown. I love Camden and North London, and being able to perform so close to home is wonderful! There’s a wonderfully rich spread of acts, and the festival organisers are super supportive and helpful. Plus, it’s a little less insanely expensive than getting up to Edinburgh!

London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?

If a venue has a microwave in a green room, and/or a supermarket nearby, that’s a huge selling point. Not having to buy prepared food is a great way to protect that budget. And always accept a free drink from your adoring audience.

What are your three favourite things about Camden?

Having a drink on the locks

The market

The Jazz Cafe!

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

“Losing my virginity was like assembling IKEA furniture: confusing, frustrating, and I ended up covered in blood” – it’s stupid, but it always gets a laugh.

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

I know it’s a clichè at this point for a woman doing a solo show to mention Phoebe Waller-Bridge, but I think she’d be a really fun guest. I imagine she’d be very happy to be involved with the audience participation, and she’s someone who’s thoughts on the show I’d be very grateful to hear!

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@rhiannonjenks93 on instagram and twitter, @rhiannonjenkinsactor on facebook, and www.rhiannonjenkins.net

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

To have fun!
