Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hey! We’re Split Infinitive, an award-nominated theatre company dedicated to creating intimate and engaging pieces of original theatre. We love to explore the relationship between performer and spectator, and get the audience involved with the narrative.
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?
We were watching an episode of Richard Osman’s House of Games and it was the answer for one of the mixed up answers! (so you could say we pinched it!) We love referencing other work within our own and thought why not do it for the title.
Tells us a little bit about your style of show?
It’s a dark comedy, a play within a play, and just a little bit interactive (but nothing too scary!)
What will your set be about?
It’s about a the relationship between a sex worker, Krystal, and her new client. However, write what you know (as they always say), the client is our writer, Alexander. He recounts his encounter and uses his wife Helen to help him tell the story.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Off Main Stages’ Mosquito by Cameron Corcoran at The Cockpit and Precarious Theatre’s A Theatre Show at Camden People’s Theatre
Have you done the fringe before? What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?
This is our third year at the Camden Fringe, we absolutely love it! Last year we had an amazing time at the Etcetera Theatre and loved seeing Threedumb Theatre’s production of Dog/Actor.
What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?
Do it! It’s so much fun, you get to see so many other amazing performance and everyone is so supportive!
What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?
The fact that you’re performing in London at a time when there is loads of exciting performances going on. It brings in such an eclectic mix of drama, comedy, stand up, musicals and everything in-between.
London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?
Prep, plan and budget. It’s lovely to take in the sights and sounds of the city but if you know you’re on a tight budget, you’ve got to plan ahead and prep snacks and meals and try and share digs with other companies. It’s a great way to get to know one another!
What are your three favourite things about Camden?
The performances, the people and the food!
Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?
“I bought loads of jars of honey and stuck pictures of Michael Ball’s face on it – I called it Ball Honey!” from our show last year, I Heart Michael Ball. It was always a great line for getting a response from everyone in the audience whether that be laughter is disgust.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
It would have been amazing if Michael Ball had come to see I Heart Michael Ball last year! But as for this year’s production of A Caravan Named Desire… it’d just be great to see some of the other fringe performers in the audience. We’ve created this piece specifically for the fringes and would love regular fringe goers and performers to come along and join in the fun!…And if Michael Ball is in the area, we still wouldn’t say no.
The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?
Keith – you just don’t see many pigeons called Keith and statistically surely there’s got to be one out there. We think this is him.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
