Hello! Tell us about yourself ?

We are Opera Kipling, a newly-formed Opera company, specialising in fun and close-up productions!

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the Camden fringe?

The name of our show, La Cenerentola, comes ready-made from the title of the Opera by Rossini, which we shall be performing!

Tell us a little bit about your style of show?

Our style is very fun, with lots of bright colours and beautiful music! It’s very family friendly and short enough to be a wonderful introduction to Opera, whilst being upstairs from a pub!

What will your set be about?

Our show is a modern retelling of the classic Cinderella story – as told in Rossini’s Opera. The story has a few variations to the well-known Brothers’ Grimm version, including an evil Step-Dad! It’s set in the 1980s and will feature lots of neon and stunning singing.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

We are hoping to catch Chopin’s Last Tour at Etcetera Theatre, Twisted Tales at The Cockpit and The Marilyn Monroe Burlesque Show at the Canal Café Theatre

Have you done the fringe before? What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?

We have done the fringe before as well as other Fringe festivals, and it would be really hard to pick a favourite show we’ve seen! We love anything from small stand-up gigs to larger theatre productions. The energy of every show at the Fringe is electric and everyone brings a wonderful attitude and bags of talent!

What advice would you give to others who want to perform at Camden Fringe next year?

Just do it! It’s always a great experience and you will learn so much! Our main practical advice would be to enter and to plan as early as possible! The Summer comes round quicker than you think and you’ll be glad you got going planning as early as possible!

What is the best thing about performing at the Camden fringe?

The audience! They are always so welcoming and supportive. Every show sells well and the audience is always relaxed and happy to discuss with us afterwards. We love the chilled environment and have had some excellent and constructive feedback direct from our audience members.

London can be an expensive place to perform in – what key advice would you give to performers that is a sort of life hack?

Don’t live off take-out! It can be a busy time and if you can do a little food prep in advance, you’ll avoid spending all your spare cash on food in-between shows and rehearsals!

What are your three favourite things about Camden?

Camden is a fabulous place to hang out in the Summer – the lock is so beautiful at dusk, and there are so many great places to eat. We love shopping at Cyberdog as well as the market then dancing at the Camden Jazz Café. Taking a stroll around to take in the street art with a coffee from The Coffee Jar is always a great way to pass the time too!

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

In our last show, a Love-Island-themed version of Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte, we had an infamous: ‘Time for an audience vote!’

As a classical genre, it always made the audience laugh and their involvement in the show made it great fun as we never knew which ending we would be performing!

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

For us, Rossini himself! Both have a seemingly excellent sense of humour and we think he would enjoy seeing how his Opera is still loved, and relevant to audiences 200 years later.

The iconic image of the Camden Fringe is the Pigeon – if you could call this years pigeon a name to represent its style what would it be and why?

Rocky – as pigeons originated from the Rock Dove birds (many years ago!) and let’s face it – the Camden Fringe rocks!
