Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m comedian and freestyle rapper Chris Turner, and I got my ear pierced three months ago. I’m still very excited about it.
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
I moved to Vegas with my newborn baby, and a bunch of crazy stuff happened. The title came naturally!
Tell us all about your show!
In 2022 I got hired by Cirque Du Soleil to perform as part of their new show in Las Vegas, so this is the story of that. There’s (of course) freestyle rap, an unlikely dance routine, and clips of Jordan Peterson calling me ugly.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Douglas Walker’s My Father’s Nose; Racing Minds’ Aaaand Now For Something Completely Improvised; and anyone produced by Stamptown.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I’ve done twelve Fringes! The simplest and most boring advice is to drink a load of water, don’t get hammered every night, and make sure you get enough sleep. I’m bringing my baby with me, so I’m almost certainly not going to be able to follow my own advice.
Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?
I went to an evening of XXX Roman plays. I thought it sounded sexy, but it was just 30 plays.
Why? Because I loved watching people in the audience explain it to their friends.
What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?
I see a lot of comedians at the Comedy Cellar in New York, and I think Marcello Hernandez and Geoffrey Asmus are two of THE funniest people I’ve seen live this year. I don’t believe they’re at the Fringe, so you’ll have to come to NYC to see them.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Go for a swim, eat well, and DON’T READ REVIEWS!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Getting to do a show 25 times, and finding different parts of it to especially enjoy every night
The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?
Remembering that even if an audience member isn’t smiling, they might still be enjoying themselves!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Vocal steamer, earplugs, lightweight raincoat.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Smile, have a good looking flyer, and don’t be too pushy.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
I’d love my daughter to see this show, but it’s on past her bedtime.
