Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Hello. We are writer/actor David Scotland, director Amy Allen and actor Robert Strange, collectively known as quitelikeyou Productions. We got together under the quitelikeyou banner to bring David’s debut play to the Edinburgh Fringe this year.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

Our title is lifted from the lyrics of the New Order song ‘Temptation’. During the play, the character Dave mentions that his favourite song is playing. In thinking about what that song could be, David the writer found not only the title for but also the story of the play: I’ve Never Met Anyone Quite Like You Before

Tell us all about your show!

The play tells two concurrent stories. In one, we see Dave struggle to navigate the minefield of modern LGBTQ+ relationships with his boyfriend Art in a series of vignette style scenes. In the other, a collection of monologues explore Dave’s relationship with everyone from his mum to his (prospective) agent. Travelling from a gay club to a church, a coffee shop to a cemetery and incorporating movement and music throughout, this play is as funny as it is poignant and as universal as it is personal.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

We’ve been sharing a show a day on our social media channels that we are excited to see but if we had to pick just one, it would probably be Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story by Awkward Productions.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This is our first time performing at the fringe and we have been given lots of great advice. Standouts have to be: make a budget, set yourself clear (and realistic) goals and remember to have fun and see lots of brilliant shows too.

Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?

One of our favourite lines from our play is when the character of Art tells his boyfriend Dave, ‘you don’t get extra points for monogamy, you know.’

What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?

We recently saw a London Preview of ‘My Last Two Brain Cells’ which is heading to the Gilded Balloon Patter Hoose. It’s brilliant throughout but features a mime sequence which is had us in stitches and is worth the ticket price alone.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

We are staying with David’s family in Stirling so we hope each day will start with a big hearty breakfast made by his Mum! We’ll then make our way through to Edinburgh and try and make our way around as many other shows as we can before we start flyering in the early evening. Our show starts at 8.45 each night so a post-show beverage with the audience sounds like a perfect way to round up the day before heading back home.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Have a plan and be prepared to throw it out of the window at a moment’s notice.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Having not yet performed, we have to say that the best thing we have found about being a fringe show is the community of artists it brings together. The love and support we have received from other acts and productions on social media has been unreal and we can’t wait to meet them all in real life and see their awesome work.

The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?

As a small team, it’s probably juggling the huge list of other duties it takes to put on a play other than the performances themselves. We are now fully fledged producers, social media managers, marketing executives and PAs.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

A rain mac, a packed lunch and a good sense of humour.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

We were hoping you might tell us that. . .

Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?

Kae Tempest. We are such huge fans of their work and they have been such an inspiration to us as artists. What a role model of authenticity openheartedness and bravery. Let us know if you want a free ticket Kae!

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

We literally have ALL the social media accounts so it’s probably easiest to pop onto our Linktree at https://linktr.ee/quitelikeyouproductions and find them all there.

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

WE WORKED HARD.
