Hello! Tell us about yourself?
My name is Lilly Burton. I am an Award-winning performer writer and artist and activist. I like taking my slingshot at no-go social constructs with a mash-up of autobiographical story-telling, comedy, and original song writing; plus I like to throw in some dance moves too!
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
I wanted something subversive, funny, catchy and rhyming. A title that gave big hints without say exactly what the show was about. Intriguing and tongue and cheek!
Tell us all about your show!
All Aboard! At Termination Station is an all-singing, all-dancing comedy cabaret theatre show… about my personal experience of multiple abortions… lol, obvs, duh! I wanted to make a show that retold an account of abortion where the woman was not the victim but empowered. Why can’t I laugh at my experiences, some of them were traumatic. Some weren’t! And if it had felt like a more normalised topic, I would have found all the experiences so much easier! This show is a celebration of reproductive freedom, it’s personal, not political. Its brash but silly, it’s up front and comes from the heart!.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Here are my top three picks:
How to Flirt: The TED XXX Talk by Daisy Doris May at Assembly rooms creator of Haus of Don, amazing drag king, one of the funnest things at the fringe for sure! Rosalie Minnitt: Clementine at underbelly will be a scream character comedy this is bridgerton meets mighty boosh and Buff at Pleasance Courtyard, Below is a frank comedy theatre show about being plus-sized in the gay community and Helen Bauer the queen of comedy.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This is my first time and here is some advice I have been given: Walk Arthur’s Seat, make sure you buy vocal remedies and stationery before you get to the festival (they sell out in the city pretty quickly) and remember that no matter what, you took the plunge because you believe in yourself and no one can take that away from you!
Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?
(to audience) F***k it, shall we just go and get a drink?
What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?
Kim Noble’s “Lullaby for scavenger’s” was by far the most unique and different, as is always the vibe with Kim Noble. Surreal, at points concerning- check him out! Norris and Perks: Sirens was a mixture of sketch, song and too friends titting about. Loved that! Catts from Frankie Thompson a misinterpretation of the musical Catts, clever, banging clown!
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Dishevelled and desperate for a coffee, praying I haven’t lost my phone. Finds phone. Drinks water. Hopefully I can remember and relive the night before and the shows I went to see without too much embarrassment but with a hint of triumphant disgracefulness. Think about where to flyer, whose shows I need to see. Text someone I love. Find someone I like to get said coffee. Have a shower, pack my outfit for flyering, drink more water and get the hell out there and rule the world! 30mins before the show, go and chill out.. Again, fingers crossed all props are where I left them. Find my delightful tech operator- get in the space. Chat with the previous show. Drink more water. SHOW TIME
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Try and see everything, do everything, squeeze it but know your limits!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The buzz, sense of possibility about who you might meet and what you could see.
The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?
The stamina, to keep going physically. My voice will be the thing I need to look out for and after the most. She’s loud and mighty but I lose her easily! Need to resist shouting in the Pub!
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Sensible shoes, a list of reason about why you’re there, vocal steamer
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Know your tagline, look people in the eye, wear something memorable
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
French and Saunders
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@lillyeburton on Instagram and twitter
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Smashing Abortion Stigma
