There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to a new feature that will appear regularly this year in the travel section. Today we are going to kick things off by looking at one of my favourite photos.
I really enjoy writing this article because it gives me an excuse to have a look at photos that I took years ago and relive the experience of what it felt like to take them at the time. In 2013, for the Christmas holidays, I spent my time in Florida – we did not want to go to the standard locations so we decided to make our base Tampa (and then we ended up travelling around to places like Orlando etc).
In 2013, I loved to take my SLR camera on holiday with me as it was the first year that I had one and I wanted to take advantage of it. I had a great time earlier in the year in the Caribbean taking photographs that I knew that I had to take it to Florida with me as well. We had a hotel that was located at the edge of the water, a Hilton that was near the stadium and at the bottom of the town. Our hotel room was very high up and when we got to the hotel it was nearly evening and the sun was setting and the scene outside just spoke to me and I had to take a photograph.
I was just in awe of how the sun reflected on the buildings and I loved the way it created this really dramatic effect on the windows of the offices. It created this image that felt really American but also very magical at the same time and it is a photograph that I look at over and over again that makes me happy.
