Hello! Tell us about yourself?
So I’m a mid 30s, gay stand up comedian who talks about stupid gay things!
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
So I talk a lot about being a mediocre gay – not the kind of gay you see on Tv or in films, the really fit guy, or the big jolly guy, I look a bit too mediocre but then I thought about it and realised that maybe I’m the perfect gay in other ways…
Tell us all about your show!
So my show is an exploration of what kind of gay I am – I’m constantly trying to be the ‘perfect gay’ son I thought that I would actually explore if I am – and why I’m so obsessed with being the perfect gay.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Well my comedy partner Kate Dale is doing her show Up To Scratch and It is hilarious so I’m excited to see that at the Fringe, I’m also really stoked to see Chris Hall’s show, we work together a lot and I’ve never managed to see his full hour and I think it will be blinding.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I haven’t actually this is my first time but I’ve been told the best way to get through it is to either drink no alcohol at all…or loads of it…I think I’m going to treat it like a holiday…that I have to work every day of…and live in a student flat for…so not much of a holiday.
Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?
I have to be honest, my favourite one liner I can’t possibly repeat…
What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?
Chris Hall’s show is super funny and really speaks to me as a gay man.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
I am not a morning person…so I do tend to have a bit of a lie in with a cup of tea and then I’m up and looking through the notes made from last night’s show. I work on the pieces I think need a little tweak and then I will normally meet one of my comedian friends for a catch up. After a rushed sandwich I will then head out and do a bit of afternoon leafleting before prepping for my show that night. After the show I will make some notes from that performance to review the next day and then head for a drink with some friends!
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Go and see (Just a) Perfect Gay. Once you’ve done that I think I would say just immerse yourself in the vibes of the festival. Oh and go and see what you WANT to see not what you THINK you should see.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Spending a month with my comedy pals.
The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?
Spending a month with my comedy pals
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
I have long hair so I don’t like to travel without my Dyson Airwrap. That’s nice an relatable isn’t it – I guess I’d sum that up as hair products. Then second would be your toothbrush, after a long day brushing your teeth can make you feel fresh again. And finally I think the phone number of a non comedy person who can talk to you when it’s all gone to sh**.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Being beautiful I would imagine. People will take a leaflet off a pretty person right? So I’ve had a facelift so I’m ready. Nah I think being genuinely hyped about your show, knowing what it’s message is and WHY people should give you an hour of their time. Or chasing them down the street. Maybe I’ll try that.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Joan Rivers. She’s dead so I guess Cher. I’m picking women who can’t laugh because of all the botox so that’s not ideal is it.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
On Instagram I’m @mrdavidian or they can check out my website Davidian.co.uk
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Because it’s fabulous
