Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
FANTASISING.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
‘FANTASISING’ is the first song for the EP, it was awesome to finally get these songs out! This EP is something I have been working on for a long time so to actually get to start sharing it with people has been the best feeling ever.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
I would say ‘Friends’. It’s its a deeply personal song that is hidden behind a big guitar chorus and I just feel like its a song that you can either really listen too and relate too or just have a dance too in your bedroom.
Your favourite song to play live:
LoveSick. It is off my EP that I am releasing on the 1st of September and it is just so great live. Big drums, big guitars and a lot of high energy vocals. I wrote it because I wanted to just have a song that gave the live show a super high energy twist that (hopefully) leaves people singing it on their way back home.
Your most emotional track:
This has changed after the EP had all been finished. I wrote ‘Friends’ really quickly as it just poured out of me, then I think it took a while for what i wrote to actually sink in. It is about how I see myself amongst my friends and essentially having to prioritise music and that leaving me in a place of guilt and also self isolation. I wrote it when I locked myself away for months trying to get this EP finished so it is essentially a personal apology to my friends. I considered not putting it onto the EP because of how personal it was but then I just wanted the EP to be as personal and ‘real’ as possible. Rather than having made up situations or things through rose tinted glasses.
The best lyric you have ever written:
“Red eyes, stop signs, running through the backstreets of this place called home. Blink twice, then you might, start to miss the ways of habits we’ve outgrown.” Only my friends will know the full story of this but the brief summary was us stopping a police car with a stop sign we found on the street which lead too, as you can imagine, some very unamused police officers and a lot of running and hopping over fences.
It is also just looking back on all the mistakes and dumb things I did and missing them those bad habits or dumb decisions.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
The feeling I get when I walk out is like I am going to walk into a fight. Now, I will say, there is no violence in my shows, not only due to my lack of physical ability but also because the live shows are about creating a place of freedom of expression. Take it more as a metaphorical fight, as in I am just about to be so fully focused on giving everything to the audience.
The hardest track to play live:
FANTASISING is pretty hard vocally. There’s a lot of fast lyrics and if you looked up an image of someone who would be the polar opposite of a rapper, I would come up (probably with a laughing emoji next to it). Saying all of this it is super fun and high energy so despite it being hard, it is really fun to perform.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
I’m not really a type of person that holds a large amount of sentimental value on physical things so there isn’t anything that reminds me of home or anything like that. I would say however, a whole bunch of stroopwaffles. My mum is dutch and because of this we have always had an unlimited supply of them and a cup of tea with a couple of those bad boys; one of life’s greatest pleasures. If that isn’t ‘Rock and Roll’ I don’t know what is.
Describe your fans in three words:
(The) Loved weird misfits
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
Misery Business by Paramore. I mean, the definition of an absolute sing along banger. I physically can’t stop myself from head banging and singing along. I will die on the hill that ‘Riot!’ is one of the best albums of all time.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
I have so much music coming out as well as gigs! I have the EP out on the 1st of September, shows starting on the 1st of July at the Camden Assembly. It’s just going to be a big year of tons on new music and a lot of live shows and I would love it if you came along for the ride.
