INTERVIEW – A Quick Conversation With: Austin Mulka

Welcome to a brand new feature where we ask musicians or bands five really tough questions about music! Today we speak to musician Austin Mulka, who is currently working on the upcoming album “Reveries and Requiem” which is set to be released soon!

What is the hardest lyric you have ever had to write and why?

One of the hardest set of lyrics I had to write was for my Emily Dickinson album. Trying to maintain the integrity of Dickinson’s work while infusing it with my own style and originality was a complex and thought-provoking process. The challenge lay in doing justice to such a renowned poet, while also ensuring the songs were genuinely reflective of me as an artist.

What is the weirdest gift or compliment a fan has given you?

The quirkiest compliment I’ve ever received from a fan was that my music helped them conquer their fear of spiders. It was surreal, yet incredibly gratifying to know that my songs could have such an unusual yet impactful effect.

Who is the best band or musician you have had the pleasure to share the stage with?

The best band I had the pleasure to share the stage with was The Veer Union. My band, Face the Fire, had the privilege of opening for them. Their energy, talent, and performance prowess were truly inspiring, and it was a pivotal moment in my career.

What one of your songs has been the most difficult to rehearse for a live audience?

“Happy Ending” has been the most challenging song to rehearse for a live audience. The vocal intricacies required a lot of practice and control, making it a demanding but rewarding piece to perform

Dream Collaboration and why ?

My dream collaboration would be with Regina Spektor. Her fusion of classical and pop elements is something I deeply admire, and her unique approach to songwriting is something I would love to explore and learn from.
