Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Isak’s Island

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Someone I’d recognise is a song about the beginning of a love relationship, set in London where I lived a few years back.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

My first single ever was called Leave It All To Space and it was, as the title suggests, a space rock song. I was full of self doubt so it took a long time before I believed anyone giving me compliments on it. But I’m proud of it still today, so I’m very happy I took the leap and released it. That’s ten years ago now.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

I’m not sure what’s my favourite but I am happy with a lot of the songs of the new album. Right now I feel most happy with the title track.

Your favourite song to play live:

Entirely depends on the setting, but on my last gig I enjoyed Self Portrait. Also from the new album.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

It must have been some of my earliest songs. I used to struggle finishing lyrics. All of the songs on the new album came out pretty quick.

Your most emotional track:

They are all very emotional you could say. Just that different emotions are being focused on on different songs.

The best lyric you have ever written:

I am happy with most of the songs of the album. If I have to say one then maybe Portals. Or Self Portrait.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It depends a lot on how I’m feeling generally that day, and what type of gig it is etc. I always feel a bit nervous, but if I am to perform the songs well I need also to feel calm.

The hardest track to play live:

Certain song are difficult for me to sing live. The title track of the new album is one if them.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Guitar and a few books.

Describe your fans in three words:

Sensitive, feeling human beings. Just like all the people who don’t listen to my music.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

I think it’s going to rain today by Randy Newman. But also kind of happy I didn’t write it, so I can just enjoy it.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

LI’m releasing my album Fallen Anchors On The Sea Bed on the 26th of May.
