The Key, The Secret – Urban Cookie Collective
The other day I was listening to a random playlist on Spotify, when this track came on, it was one that I had not heard in a very long time and it really stood out to me and made me remember the time when I used to hear this song all the time on the radio. Today we are going to look at a dance track that you may remember as it was really catchy and it was only this last time that I listened to it that I actually payed attention to the lyrics.
The Key The Secret, was released on the 28th June 1993 by the group Urban Cookie Collective. The song was from the debut album by the band that was called High on a Happy Vibe that was released in 1994. The song was written by Rohan Heath and produced by Chapter, it was also released on the record label Pulse 8. In this track, the group teamed up with the British singer Diane Charlemagne so that is the voice that you are hearing throughout.
If the song sounds familiar, this could be for a number of reasons. The first is that in the early noughties, it was used in the the drama series Queer As Folk as part of the soundtrack in episode 2. Another reason you may of heard of the song it because it did incredibly well in the charts. The song went into the top 5 in a number of countries including Australia (4), Canada (3), Ireland (4), Germany (5), Netherlands (1) and Switzerland (4). In the United Kingdom, it went straight into the charts at number 1 and sold over 200,000 units and went to certified Silver.
It is one of those songs that when you hear it the memories of the track come flooding back and it is actually quite a catchy dance track that you can imagine it being played in the night clubs.
