Welcome to the feature where we talk to musicians about some of their favourite things about the industry. Today we speak to Ghosts of Sunset whose latest music release is the album Breathe Today we speak to the band to discover all of their favourite things about music.
What is your Favourite:
Song you have written:
I love them all of course. I’m a big fan of “Two Tickets to Tokyo” on our latest album. I like “No Saints in the City” off our previous record of the same name.
Lyric:
“We learned more from a 3-minute record than we ever learned in school”- Bruce Springsteen
Musician:
I’m a Beatle guy, and John Lennon is my favorite.
Film or television show:
I love Spinal Tap, and TV show-wise, right now I dig “Poker Face”
Venue to perform at:
We had a lot of fun over the years at the Hogs Breath Saloon in Key West. We used to play “Fredericks Music Lounge” in St. Louis and that was iconic.
Item to take with you on tour:
I ALWAYS bring the book “STP The Rolling Stones Across America”. Chronicle of the 1972 tour.
Instrument:
I am the biggest guitar nerd on Earth. I have a old 50’s RI telecaster that I’ve had since I was a kid. That’s a fav.
Song to play live:
Ghosts of Sunset have yet to perform live, but man, it would be cool to hear a room full of people singing one of our choruses.
Album by another musician:
Right now it’s “Butch Walker as Glenn”. As an artist, writer, producer or guitarist, he’s a genius across the board.
Memory of tour:
I spent 25 years as a fall down drunk, so I don’t remember a ton. I’ve had some amazing moments out there that I’ll take with me forever.
Era for music:
For me 50s-80s. 80’s will hold a special place in my heart because that’s when I was a kid and music was my very best friend.
Part of making a record:
Hearing it in the car when it’s all done. That’s always my big test.
Thing about performing at festivals:
Love connecting with other bands, Hate the piles of equipment laying around just waiting to be ripped off.
Quote:
“This is no dress rehearsal, we are professionals, and this is the big time”- Waylon Jennings
Thing about the music industry at the moment:
Access. You can get access to almost any song or album or artist, instantaneously. It’s a blessing and a curse.
Thing about this year so far?
We’re outside our houses and we’re interacting again.
