Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
My debut EP – Fire Escape! It is my first EP and I’m so excited to share it! This EP is a culmination of a lot of the songs I’ve been crafting and moulding over the past couple years. I wanted to make an EP of a body of work of mine that represents not only my authentic self, but the full tapestry of what it means to be a woman. The sexuality, the heartbreak, the strength and empowerment, the honouring of your childhood, and the joy of falling in love. I wanted the listeners to feel inspired to be their true selves when they listen to it.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
My first single I ever released was my song 4am. It was a very stripped down acoustic version. I was so excited to finally put my music out there that I feel immense growth looking back on that song and how far I have come musically and also how I’ve grown so much as an artist since that release.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
I think my favorite song that I created for my album would be “Emotion Mommy”. I had a lot of fun writing the lyrics once I created the concept of being a mother to your partner emotionally. It also makes me feel empowered when I perform it.
Your favourite song to play live:
I love playing my song “Fire Escape” because it’s a fun song to get the crowd energized with and I love getting folks to sing along the chorus with me.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
The longest song to write was definitely “Heart Attack”. It took me many drafts to write the exact lyrics I wanted to use. The subject matter was one that was a ubiquitous experience, the feeling of heartbreak. It’s a a subject matter that so many songwriters have written about and I wanted to make sure I used both unique melodic sound and lyricism to capture such a concept.
Your most emotional track:
The most emotional track is definitely “Heart Attack”. It was based upon my first experience of falling in love. So it is near and dear to my heart.
The best lyric you have ever written:
That is a tough question, but I think the most unique lyrics I have ever written are for my first off of the EP entitled “Emotion Mommy.” When you search my song Emotion Mommy on spotify, there is no other song titled it! The chorus lyrics are:
Your my love
you’re my labor
labor of love
I’ll be there to give hope
hope that you need but
I don’t want to be your emotion mommy.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
There is nothing like the rush you feel when you walk onto the stage to perform. You have such a rush of adrenaline and nerves mixed into the big beautiful ball of energy. I am nervous for the first song that I play and then I calm down and let myself just enjoy the high that is performing in front of people. I love it!
The hardest track to play live:
The hardest track to play live is Fire Escape because the chord I’m playing on my guitar for one part of the verses is quite extended for my tiny little hands.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
I always have to take my guitar pics and trusty capo and guitar strap
Describe your fans in three words:
Energetic, empowered, playful
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
It is really hard to pick just one, but I’ll give a couple. I really enjoy the lyrical genius of Space Cowboy by Kacey Musgraves. I also love Gravity by John Mayer. I also love Ordinary People by John Legend.
What we can look forward to from your band this year :
I am planning on doing a lot of shows both solo and with my band. I hope to spread my debut EP – Fire Escape far and wide for everyone to listen and connect to!
