Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Mandi Crimmins

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

“ILY, DON’T LEAVE” is my version of a love song. Relationships can feel intense and when you have trauma and mental illness it creates fear that this amazing person will disappear. So it’s my way of acknowledging the fear that’s always present, but with the intense joy and love I feel as well.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

My first single was a song called “I’m Broken” and I released it just to Soundcloud in 2013. It was both the happiest and the most terrified I had ever felt.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

It’s so hard to pick!! I how story love all my songs, but there’s something special about MELTDOWN, BREAK ME DOWN, and ILY, DON’T LEAVE.

Your favourite song to play live:

I haven’t gotten to perform any of the new songs off the EP live yet, but I KNOW it’ll be all of those for sure.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

ILY, DON’T LEAVE because I had never written a live song before and I wanted to do it right. I wanted it to both speak to my great love for my partner, while also showcasing the mental health aspect that is a part of me.

Your most emotional track:

BREAK ME DOWN and ILY, DON’T LEAVE are also very emotional in different ways.

The best lyric you have ever written:

This is unreleased but “Are you bitter/ or just a different kind of sinner?” It’s probably a songwriter thing that this answer changes every time I write a new song!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It’s like everything around you is humming with this energetic pulse, and the sound around you numbs into this low hum. It’s when I feel most in my body.

The hardest track to play live:

BREAK ME DOWN, oh my god. No question

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

I have yet to be on your, but I’d need a bucket of Ricolla and throat coat tea on standby at all times.

Describe your fans in three words:

Loyal, passionate, and unique

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

“Heaven” by PVRIS and “Going Under” by Evanescence

What we can look forward to from your band this year :

Lots of new music!! Been collaborating with members of The Haunt pretty consistently and we’ve really locked in a solid sound that you’re all going to scream about.
