Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Tung In Cheek

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Lucid is the 2nd single from our upcoming debut EP. Lucid is set to drop on all streaming platforms on April 14th. Lucid represents our more stripped back, soft indie-rock elements with nylon stringed acoustic guitar blended with shoe-gaze intricate electric guitar. Andy’s vocals encapsulate a bright dreamy placid and serene environment.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

Our first single was TIC, dropped in December of 2019. It was a great buzz to finally have our first track out and the feedback from it was wicked.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

From our upcoming debut EP ‘Knockoffs & Dummies’, our favorite track is probably The Train which is the last track on the EP. It’s a heavy, fast-paced banger that always gets the crowd going at our live shows which is why we always keep it until towards the end of the set.

Your favourite song to play live:

It would probably be ‘The train’ off our new EP “Knockoffs & Dummies”. It’s fast paced, easy to play and usually slaps pretty hard. We always get positive feedback from the crowd after playing it. This song may well be dropping a few days before the EP so listen out.

Your most emotional track:

Has to be ‘Lucid’ which is also a tune off our new EP. This single drops this Friday 14th April which we are really excited about. It’s a sultry and warm song with basic but lonely lyrics at times. The guitars bounce around the tune adding to the variety of emotions portrayed throughout.

The best lyric you have ever written:

That’s a tough one. There’s so many!! Lol. The best lyrics we’ve written have probably been the more sing-song lyrics such as in Ragbag Pooka “Everyone’s a stoner and does MMA”. The lyric is easy to remember and to sing along with.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Excited but also might need to go to the toilet. Depends on whether or not you’ve eaten or had a few drinks that day. The smokes don’t help either. Overall a good buzz though. It gets better the longer you’re on stage as we find our flow and settle into it.

The hardest track to play live:

Probably Psychonaut. We can never seem to really nail it down live. There’s keyboard and bass intertwining with guitar vocal and drums and for whatever reason it just never hits as hard as the other tunes do. It hasn’t been featuring in our set as much lately as we don’t have a keyboard player.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Spare guitar strings and leads. As well as some fresh tshirts and jocks for afterwards.

Describe your fans in three words:

Supportive, bold, loving

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Frankie valli Can’t take my eyes off you. We have covered it live a few times and it feels like every human was born with those lyrics in their brain.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

Our debut EP Knockoffs & Dummies drops 19th May. We have 3 singles which we are in the process of releasing. Rib Cage dropped in March, Lucid is out this week and The Train drops the week before the EP. We are doing on tour in May. London 7th, Bray 12th, Cork 19th, Galway 21st, Dublin 25th and Mullingar 26th. We have a few more gigs to be announced as well. We have also announced a festival for Galway this summer in July called Livestock.
