Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
The latest single from Minneriket was “Sorg og savn” from the album Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile. It’s a hard-hitting metal track cloaked in a very gothic and orchestral atmosphere featuring several different vocalists and combining different genres.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
Minneriket debutet with a full-length album called Vargtimen in 2015, and did not start with either a demo or a single release. The first single came in 2016, and it was the track “Jærtegn” from the then upcoming album Stjerner, speil og svartebøker… released later that year.
The single for “Jærtegn” was actually released as a limited edition cassette tape on fluorescent green cassette, and the B-side was a cover of Venom’s “Black metal”.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
It’s hard to choose. I have a few personal favourites like “An all too human heart” from Anima Sola, “Regnbuer i gråtoner” from Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile and a few others. I’ve curated a Spotify playlist called “This is Minneriket” with the most essential songs, so look it up if you’re looking for an introduction to the band!
Your favourite song to play live:
Minneriket is a one-man studio band and does not perform live rituals.
Your most emotional track:
That would probably be the instrumental “Hjemlengsel”, the first single from Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile. The song consists of nothing but piano, cello and field recordings of ice and snow. Be sure to check out the 4K music video on YouTube filmed entirely with drone.
The best lyric you have ever written:
Probably “Nåde” from Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile, but hard for me to choose. But that one was painful to write, and that is always a good sign. All lyrics are available on my website www.minneriket.com so check it out.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Minneriket is a one-man studio band and does not perform live rituals.
The hardest track to play live:
Minneriket is a one-man studio band and does not perform live rituals. If I were to bring Minneriket to a stage most of the material from “Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile” would require a huge production though. On the song “Nåde” (which is almost fifteen minutes long), there are drums, bass, thirteen guitars, 3 lead vocalists and a whole choir, saxophone, cello, 4 violins and 4 violas, synth, piano, a Chineese gong and an electrical harp.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
Minneriket is a one-man studio band and does not perform live rituals.
Describe your fans in three words:
Passionate, dedicated and loyal.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“Plågoande, O’ helga plågoande” by Shining. That’s a phenomenal song; misanthropic lyrics, rock-oriented drums and engaging riffs.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
I’ll be working hard in the studio this year on new material, and I’m already well on my way. Most of the music and lyrics have been written, and the recording process have already begun. Hopefully I will be able to share something early next year. In the meantime; be sure to follow Minneriket on social medias for all the latest updates.
