Playing The Favourite – INTERVIEW – Minneriket

Welcome to the feature where we talk to musicians about some of their favourite things about the industry. Today we speak to Stein Akslen from the one man band Minneriket. In 2022, the album Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile was released, today we find out all about Stein’s favourite things.

What is your Favourite:

Song you have written:

Right now it’s “Regnbuer i gråtoner” from Gjennom meg går ingen til hvile

Lyric:

Of my own? Probably “Nåde”. If it’s others I’ll say “I’ll by waiting” by Offspring, “Snuff” by Slipknot or “The Mercy Seat” by Nick Cave.

Musician:

Bruce Dickinson.

Film or television show:

First Blood, Taxi Driver, Donnie Darko, Star Wars, Blade Runner, Sin City, Zack Snyders’ Justice League… Too many to mention.

Venue to perform at:

Minneriket is a one-man studio project and does not perform live.

Item to take with you on tour:

Minneriket is a one-man studio project and does not perform live.

Instrument:

To play myself I prefer acoustic guitars, but to listen do I love trombones, piano and drums.

Song to play live:

Minneriket is a one-man studio project and does not perform live.

Album by another musician:

“Stormblåst” by Dimmu Borgir

Memory of tour:

Minneriket is a one-man studio project and does not perform live.

Era for music:

80s heavy metal, 70s punk and 90s black metal.

Part of making a record:

The pain and the catharsis. Manifesting an idea into something concrete and bringing it out into the world. Magic.

Thing about performing at festivals:

Minneriket is a one-man studio project and does not perform live.

Quote:

“Jeg er som laksen – jeg må gå mot Strømmen – jeg må det” – Knut Hamsun. (Translation: I am like the salmon, I must move against the current”).

Thing about the music industry at the moment:

That everyone has a shot. Music recording and production have become available for almost anyone, you don’t need big-shot producers, labels, studios or huge budgets. You need an idea, creativity, talent and a will of steel. Get your priorities in order and you have no-one else to blame than yourself.

Thing about this year so far?

I’ve been progressing on new music for several different projects, and people will soon be able to hear new music from both Minneriket, Blodsgard and Månesyke. It’s been a long winter, nice cold temperatures and snow the whole year, and the atmosphere outside feels great.
