Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
My first single “Monaco” came out Friday – it evokes the feeling of cruising along a sun-drenched, coastal Mediterranean highway in a sporty vintage car. It’s the artistic embodiment of wanting more, a fantasy about escaping the greyness of daily life, throwing your high heels in a suitcase and flying somewhere glamorous where you can be a wilder version of yourself. I was honoured to have Michael Bublé’s former musical director Gene Hardy on saxophone, and drew inspiration from 60’s group The Ventures, Bond films and screen star Grace Kelly.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
I am super excited to share “Monaco” with the world! It’s a high-energy blast that captures my adventurous spirit.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
Made To Love – it has a 60’s psychedelic touches, with inspiration from Brit Pop and a warm, dreamy quality. We used a Mellotron like on “Strawberry Fields”.
Your favourite song to play live:
Bang Bang Baby – it’s got amazing horn melodies and the song is badass.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Inside Out – the words and chords came easily but it took a while to find the right tempo that hit the sweet spot between joyful and heartfelt.
Your most emotional track:
My ballad, Till I Remember.
The best lyric you have ever written:
“Bang Bang baby, I’m a dangerous girl, nobody can tame me, and I’ll have my fun so you better run”
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Exhilaration.
The hardest track to play live:
“Black & Blue” – there are a lot of vocal runs and dynamics in the song from very soft to very intense.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
A mini skirt from Courrèges, my suede over-the-knee boots, my iPhone for recording new song ideas on the go, and my vocal steamer to keep my voice healthy.
Describe your fans in three words:
Cool, nostalgic and fierce!
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“Love Is A Losing Game” by Amy Winehouse – it’s such a beautiful melody and relatable lyric.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
I’m releasing three singles and two music videos over the next few months and launching my debut self-titled album on August 4th. Currently working on plans to visit and play acoustic showcases in the UK and Europe this summer!
