The one thing I love about music is that everyone has their own story to tell – the musician, the lyrics, the way the fans decipher them and also the way a song can also create a memory or a meaning to someone. That is what this new article is all about. Each fortnight, we will take a look at a different song and I will take you as a trip down memory lane as to what it means to me. Welcome to Music Memories.
Track: Charity
Artist: Yungblud
Original Release Date: 4th December 2020
I feel even though it has been three years a lot of people have forgotten about lockdown or the world and the way it was living in a horrible time. I found music was my best friend and I listened to soooo much of it and danced a lot as well. One of the musicians I listened to a lot during this time was Yungblud.
At the end of 2019, I had just started to get into his music as I had seen him live for the first time, so his music was pretty new for me. When 2020 happened, a lot of bands stopped releasing music, however, Yungblud kept going and that got me through this time. Also, unlike a lot of other musicians, his music was not solely focussed on lockdown which was really refreshing as you didn’t want to listen to anything related to it.
The one thing that I really enjoyed was the songs that had a really uplifting beat. Near the end of 2020 he released his full debut album and on there was a track that really stood out out me.
The song Charity instantly appealed to me and I think it was because it had elements on it that sounded like Blur’s track Parklife. It was uplifting, bouncy and fun. I found the chorus was really catchy. Everyday after that album was released, I had that song on everyday and danced like crazy to it as I found parts of lockdown really hard. This song blasting through my headphones was a really big help.
