Welcome to the feature which we are going to feature ever so often as part of Improv Corner. Ever so often, we are going to talk to improv acts about some of their favourite things about the comedy form. Today we are speaking to the team Acaprov. If you are wanting to see them live they have the monthly show at Shoreditch’s new comedy venue The Green, a monthly jam on the 3rd Sunday of every month called SafeJam and another jam on the first of every month called Ladies First. If you are looking to learn A Cappella Improv you can by signing up to this 6 week beginners course.
What is your Favourite:
Improv style:
Grounded, relationship focused, organic naturalism
Short form game:
Blind Freeze Tag – it really get’s the scenes flowing and doesn’t allow for any planning/premise as you literally fly blind
Improv act :
The Southend Improvathon – it features several cast members and is so EPIC – along side which it’s only an annual event and always for charity, so it’s super special. Best of luck to everyone doing all 48 hours – beyond excited to see Chris Mead (one of our favourite improvisers) in it this year as well!
Film or television show:
This is us – relationship based, great acting, hilariously funny and completely heart warming in equal measure
Venue to perform at:
The Green! Our new home in the basement of Shoreditch Balls on Old Street – come check it out, we’re there the SECOND FRIDAY over every month.
Way to wind down:
Nachos and a circle of awesome
Way to warm up:
Harmony and Rhythm Sticks – the music is always so daring!
Suggestion:
Fantasy locations – Pirate ships, mermaid caves etc (we have a lot of Disney fans in the cast) – that said we love the Sondheim style of finding the magic in the ordinary too
Show by another improv act:
DTRS and ComediAsians ‘Special Delivery’ at Hoopla (starring several cast members) it remains one of the best improv night’s in town
Memory of a show:
The Ikea show ‘Build up love’ in Stockholm was a highlight last year (clips on our insta)
Part of rehearsing a show:
Trying new ideas! With a cast this size we never run out.
Thing about performing :
The wow factor as the a cappella chord first hits when we sing the title at the start of the show
Quote:
‘Fortune favours the bold’ we are doing the most difficult improv we can think of, with a giant cast – but we’re loving it!
Thing about the improv industry at the moment:
Inclusion – it’s really moving with the times, particularly in London.
Thing about this year so far?
Our student showcase – those guys killed it! Very excited to launch our first Acaprov Level 2 course this week – the future is Bright!
