Tell us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Made Me Happy is a reflective song. It is written from the perspective of someone who was deeply wounded by someone’s actions and is now finally coming to terms with what happened and finding some forgiveness, acceptance, understanding and peace by admitting to themselves that under similar circumstances, they would have probably behaved the same way and “did what made them happy” too.
Your first single and how you felt when it was released:
Understand (25th April 2022) –
We felt a mixture of excitement and anxiety but we felt hopeful that we might get a good reaction. It felt like the beginning of something and we knew we had so much more to go. It was nice to lay down down some building blocks for the future.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
All We Are – Being released in May on the album.
The reason we love this song so much is its musicality. We feel very proud of this song, as it feels like a real journey and it’s a bit of a different style for us. The whole ending and Jimmy’s guitar solo, is a real special moment.
Your favourite song to play live:
Understand – It’s got a great energy to it. It’s got a driving feel and really gets the blood pumping. It’s also not difficult to perform either, so it allows us to enjoy it.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Breathing In – This song has gone through many iterations. There was a completed version of this track, way back before the others joined the band. When they did join, they started to workshop it and once they were happy, it stayed like that for a while. It then changed a few more times. We had tried it at different tempos, in different keys, more chilled and then we tried making it heavier etc. Eventually we thought we had it.
This didn’t end up being the case though, as we went through a whole other process of change when we were producing and mixing the song. It’s done now though and we can’t change it anymore!… Right?!
Your most emotional track:
Voices – It’s got the most powerful meaning. This is the one that’s closest to my heart and reflects a time in my life that was difficult.
The best lyric you have ever written:
Unhappy Ever After (1st Verse) –
“When I think I’m having fun
It’s at your expense”
We feel like this is very illuminating of a lot of relationships and very thought provoking for us.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
There is an anticipation and pressure to fulfil the expectations of the audience. This comes mixed with a very intense feeling of excitement. We normally can’t wait to get on the stage and get started. The worst part is the wait!
The hardest track to play live:
All We Are – Is the hardest to sing. It’s got a delicate tone and texture in places. Lots of different techniques are needed and it’s hard to get the pitch right, with all of these elements. It needs a lot of control.
